Houses and Hotels?

Do you think I should keep the houses and hotels or should I replace them with something more wizardy... I'm not sure with what yet though. House elves heads? Ooo Hermione would totally hex me for saying that LoL =P

Potteropoly Update - What to Change to Transform into Potteropoly

So, after researching what makes up a monopoly board here is a list of things I want to change to the board.

1. Properties

Here is a draft of the board with properties I'm thinking of...

2. Money

So in the American version they use dollars. In the English version they use pounds. So in the Potter version, clearly we must use wizarding currency: galleons, sickles, and knuts!

We all know that there are 17 sickles in a galleon, and 29 knuts in a sickle... but what does that mean in dollars?

So I looked up online what the conversion rate was for American muggle money to Wizarding money was and I actually found it. LoL =D

1 Galleon = $7.35
1 Sickle = $0.46
1 Knut = $0.02

To make calculations easier, I've rounded the Galleon to $7.50 and have based all my calculations from there.

Instead of paper money, I'll have to make coins. Now it would be expensive to make coins, but I'm thinking I could use cardboard and printouts on sticker paper. However, I really want the money clinking sound like when I play around with poker chips. I could try buying different colored round metal bits from the hardware store but that might get expensive from the amount I'd have to get to supply everyone in the game. I'll have to think on that.

Obviously the bank will be Gringotts! =)

3. Chance and Community Cards

I'm thinking of changing the Chance and Community Cards to Ministry of Magic and Hogwarts cards.

4. Tokens

The original tokens were made of pewter and consisted of:

  • thimble
  • boot
  • racecar
  • battleship
  • dog
  • cannon
  • iron
I thought about using the pewter tokens from the Harry Potter Trivia Board...

But I thought it might be more fun to make my own after I saw these on Etsy:

While I was searching, I also found some other people who have made monopoly boards too.

My board is gonna be more awesome! Muwahahahaha

I wish I were finish making this already cuz I wanna play! More updates soon...

Potteropoly Update - The Board and The Original

Here is a plain board I made in Illustrator based on the traditional monopoly board. You can right click it and save and print for yourself and write in whatever you want. It is already in CYMK mode and 20 in.  x 20 in.

So before I make my own monopoly, I thought I'd research what comes in the standard monopoly game so I know what I need to make. Here is what I found:

PIECES

20 in x 20 in board
16 Chance Cards
16 Community Chest Cards
22 Streets
4 Railroads
2 Utilities
2 Six Sided Dice
1 Speed Die (Optional)

MONEY

The distribution of cash in the U.S. version has changed with the newer release versions. Older versions had a total of $15,140 in the following amounts/colors:
  • 20 $500 bills (orange)
  • 20 $100 bills (beige)
  • 30 $50 bills (blue)
  • 50 $20 bills (green)
  • 40 $10 bills (yellow)
  • 40 $5 bills (pink)
  • 40 $1 bills (white)
The newer (September 2008) editions have a total of $20,580, with 30 of each bill denomination. In addition, the colors of some of the bills have been changed; $10s are now blue instead of yellow, $20s are a brighter color green than before, and $50s are now purple instead of blue.
Each player begins the game with his or her token on the Go square, and $1,500 (or 1,500 of a localized currency) in play money. Prior to September 2008, the money was divided as follows in the U.S. standard rules:
  • 2 each of:
    • $500 bills
    • $100 bills
    • $50 bills
  • 6 $20 bills
  • 5 each of:
    • $10 bills
    • $5 bills
    • $1 bills

The Beginning of Awesomeness...

Hello, my name is Candy and I love Harry Potter and Monopoly. I have collected Monopoly versions of some of my favorite things such as Lord of the Rings and Hello Kitty =) However I've waited for a Harry Potter themed Monopoly for years and I still haven't found one or one hasn't been made. So I have decided to use my skills with Adobe CS5 Suite to create my own and I'm going to share it with all of you who have also been wanting to play Harry Potter Monopoly!

Updates soon to come!
